This building paper model is the St. Nicholas Chapel (Sint Nicolaaskapel, Valkhof Chapel) in Nijmegen, a chapel built around 1030 on the Valkhof, a hill in the center of Nijmegen, which was already in use by the Batavians, the papercraft is created by schaalbouw, and the scale is in 1:100.
Charlemagne built a palace, which was expanded in later centuries in the 8th century on the hill. Around 1030 was probably given the order by Emperor Conrad II to build the chapel, using the remains of the palace chapel of Charlemagne. Some sources mention Theophanu Essen as founder of the chapel, allegedly founded in memory of her grandmother and namesake, Theophanu empress, who was deceased, and would have been a great admirer of St. Nicholas of Myra in Nijmegen.
