The International Fleet in addition to its carriers, operated smaller ships called Dreadnoughts. Dreads as they were called were present in the Third Invasion against the Formics and are considered presumably destroyed in the battle.
In the 2013 film, Dreads are shown with 4 large engines similar the ones used on carriers excepts the carriers had 8. The general design is similart the carrier but smaller.The principle weapon is a single rapid fire cannon. The cannon is laid out twin barrels but only fires one shot . The cannon is shown to easily penetrate Formic ship armor. Interestingly , the Dreadnoughts only carried the single cannon and lacked fighters and other defensive weaponary. [Source: wikia]
