This papercraft is a full version Darth Vader"s Armor (or serial number: E-3778Q-1), a mobile life support system that Darth Vader was forced to wear to compensate for the serious injuries he suffered after his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar in 19 BBY, based on the Star Wars universe, the paper model is created by Joe Pep and FierFek.
It was designed to maintain and protect the young Sith apprentice"s charred body while exuding an air of intimidation and control. His suit followed an ancient Sith tradition, in which the warriors of the dark side of the Force would adorn themselves in heavy armor. The suit was constructed using various methods of Sith alchemy which served to augment Vader"s severely diminished physical strength and vitality.
The suit provided a wide variety of life-support systems, the most important among them a complex breathing apparatus, and gave Vader relatively free movement without having to use a hoverchair. It was damaged or broken several times during its use, necessitating upgrades and repairs. The suit was finally irreparably broken by Emperor Palpatine"s powerful Force lightning aboard the second Death Star after Vader saved his son, Luke Skywalker, from near death. After Vader"s death soon thereafter, the suit was ceremonially burned by Skywalker on the forest moon of Endor in 4 ABY.
The armor encased Vader completely, leaving no burned skin exposed. However, the suit was not made with the peak technology of its day and was uncomfortable to wear. Vader slowly learned to live with the sort of isolation and anonymity that the suit imposed on him, finding ways to cope with his situation. Due to the heavy weight and rather awkward bulk of the armor, Vader was forced to change his lightsaber style to compensate for these shortcomings. The electronics of the suit were also very sensitive to electrical discharges, though Vader was able to add a limited amount of insulation to the suit after discovering this. Additionally, to escape the armor"s claustrophobic nature, Vader had several pressurized meditation chambers built in which he could remove his mask and suit and still survive. Vader longed to be less dependent on his armor, and tried at times to function without it, but he labored in vain.
Despite the weaknesses imparted by the suit, it also possessed a number of strengths that Vader eventually learned to take advantage of. These included greatly enhanced durability and stamina, numerous sensory enhancements, the ability to survive in extremely inhospitable environments, and virtual immunity against biological weaponry.
