This paper model is the Light Float No. 3, created by PaperShipWright, and the scale is in 1:250.
Lightfloats have been used by a number of lighthouse authorities to replace larger (and in most cases manned) lightships. Fully automatic and involving a lower capital cost as well cheaper running costs the attractions are obvious.
Lightfloat Number 3 was built by Harland and Wolff in 1996 and has been used at a number of locations around the coast. It replaced the LANBY off Breaksea Spit in the Bristol Channel - and was in turn replaced by a smaller, high focal plane buoy in 2006. ~ via papershipwright
