The Reaver is a flamberge-class sword with a broad, undulating serpentine blade, forged from unknown materials. Through most of the series, it is the signature weapon of the vampire Kain, and plays a key role in the games, as both the protagonists" ultimate weapon and a story element.
The Reaver was originally an enchanted sword, forged by Vorador at the Ancient Vampires" behest to destroy their prophesied adversary, the Hylden champion. It could drain its victims" blood, but was altered when it absorbed the soul of the time-traveling wraith Raziel. Hereafter, Raziel"s spirit inhabited the blade, and it obtained the ability to devour the souls of those it struck. Much later in Nosgoth"s history, when Kain attacked Raziel with the physical blade, it proved unable to devour its younger self, and shattered, releasing Raziel"s soul. The sword"s passage through time is a complicated one, and its existence has been, and will be, entwined with Raziel"s for all infinity within the Nosgoth universe.
The Soul Reaver possessed many unique qualities beyond its originally-intended purpose. As it acted as a vessel for Raziel"s soul, it could be used to decouple history, creating paradoxes and new timelines if brought into proximity with Raziel or another version of itself. Its power could only be temporarily quelled by an artifact known as the Nexus Stone, and it could be enhanced with magical powers by the Balance Emblem. Most importantly, the physical Soul Reaver was the only weapon in Nosgoth capable of harming the Elder God, damaging him in both the Material and Spectral Realms. Vampire Wraiths are the souls of vampires whose bodies have been put into a death state and while in their death state their souls wander the spectral realm until their vampiric natures adapt to that plane.
As proof they go from being glowing orbs of energy or figures of light to having an actual spectral solid form that doesn"t glow, this means they have officially become creatures of the spectral plane but, like the Sluagh when completely weakened their solid form will become transparent and when that happens any soul-devouring creature can devour them. Once a vampire – Kain"s lieutenant, "prodigal son", and second-in-command – Raziel evolved to such an extent that he surpassed Kain, a transgression which seemingly prompted his execution. Cast into the Lake of the Dead, Raziel was, like Kain before him, revived by a mysterious benefactor, and returned to Nosgoth as a wraith, to exact his revenge.
Driven by this new master, the Elder God, Raziel systematically eradicated his former brethren in the wasteland of Kain"s empire, obtained the Wraith Blade, and unearthed his own ironic past; originally a human born in Nosgoth"s early history, he had become a leading commander in the vampire-hunting Sarafan brotherhood before his death and resurrection. Lured through time and confronted by revelations, Raziel realized his terrible, inevitable future: he was destined to become the captive, ravenous spirit trapped within the Soul Reaver – later the Wraith Blade itself. Temporarily rescued from this fate by Kain, his lust for vengeance was gradually tempered, superseded by a higher quest for knowledge and freedom.
Finally exposing the Elder God"s parasitic nature through several twists and turns, Raziel ultimately accepted his fate, and achieved respite from his cyclical destiny. Dually sacrificing himself to the Soul Reaver and dispersing the Wraith Blade – his future soul – into Kain, he simultaneously trapped himself within the sword, and freed himself from thousands of years of torment. This act cleansed Kain of the corruption of the Pillars, enabling him to see, battle, and oppose the Elder God at last. [Source: wikia]

The Zephonim are a clan of vampires in the game. They are the descendants of the lieutenant Zephon. The primary territory of the Zephonim is the Silenced Cathedral, and they are encountered exclusively in and around it.
As with all the clans seen in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, the Zephonim are split into two distinct active types: the older, stronger and more evolved adult Zephonim, and the younger, weaker and less evolved fledgling Zephonim. They are devastated by sunlight’s touch, even the weaker rays of Nosgoth’s daylight, which is filtered by smoke. Which means, some of them may be executed when thrown into a small area where daylight has broken into, but otherwise know better than to go near it. These young ones look more pale and sleek.
