New Paper Craft: Robotech Macross - QF-9IE Ghost II "Phantom" Free Papercraft Download

Robotech Macross - QF-9IE Ghost II Phantom PapercraftThis paper model is a QF-9IE Ghost II "Phantom", based on the anime series Robotech / , the papercraft is created by [unknown].

At the end of the First Robotech War, weapon designers returned to investigating the possibilities with automated defense systems. In principle, these systems freed from human pilots could out perform manned units in all respects. The first major unmanned offensive system was the QF-3000 "Ghost". 512 QF-3000 were built between 2007 and 2012; however, their combat effectiveness was questionable. First and foremost, the QF-3000 MK3 Artificial Intelligence had developmental difficulties. The computer in mass combat would accidentally hit friendly units with its missiles.  As a result until the QF-3000 were upgraded to the Block "E" version in 2012, none of the QF-3000 units were loaded with missiles in combat situations.

After the Zentraedi "Rain of Death" and the subsequent RDF rebuilding, an upgrade to the Ghost was proposed. The QF-9IE would possess an upgraded artificial intelligence (AI).  The RRG MK4-AI system is a substantial upgrade over the MK3 system found on the QF-3000 "Ghost" fighter. The MK4 system allows the Phantom to mount a substantial missile load.  This is because the MK4 system provides greater protection against friendly fire incidents projecting the flight path of the missiles and compensating for potential friendly intercepts.

The Phantom "smarts" were not only upgraded, but the weaponry and armor as well. The main body and weapons arms were armored with the same Chobam composite armor found on the VF-6 "Alpha". Long range fire power is supplied from two 35mm Gauss rifles mounted underneath. For short range defense, four GU-11C are mounted two on each side. Four weapon arms are mounted radially around the central body. Four Boeing MM-12 missile launchers were added for a total capacity of 48 Starbursts short range missiles. On each of the weapon arms, a single PB-3 particle beam cannon capable of firing 6 MJ bursts up to 36 times per minute was added.

Two hundred units were produced from 2014 until 2017. All of the units were brought with the REF. The Phantom was first deployed against the Invid Regent once the SDF-3 defolded into Tirol. Fifty-Seven of the units were destroyed during initial assault and subsequent follow up attacks against the occupational forces. After the liberation of Tirol, the remaining units were placed in reserve guarding initially the REF fleet and later the rebuilt orbiting shipyards.  All of the remaining 127 units were captured by Edwards and his faction during the REF rebellion of 2039-2040.  These units were subsequently destroyed in July 2040 once the loyalist forces reconquered the planet.

Although no additional QF-9IE were produced during the Sentinel era, the design had profound impact on later events. The successful combat record of the QF-9IE proved to weapon designers that unmanned units could provide substantial support to the always outnumbered REF forces.  The Vandal VQ-6S shadow drone"s advanced Mk83 Neural Net Learning System CPU was a further improvement on the MK-4 system incorporating many of the lessons learned from the QF-9IE unit. New Paper Craft: Robotech Macross - VF-1 Atmospheric-Escape Booster Free Paper Model Download

Robotech Macross - VF-1 Atmospheric-Escape Booster Free Paper Model DownloadThis aircraft paper model is a VF-1 Atmospheric-Escape Booster, a simple, cost-effective method to increase the deployment capabilities of the VF-1 series variable fighters, based on the science fiction mecha anime  / , the papercraft is created by Cuguel. The size of finished model is about 220 (H) x 478 (W) x 445 (D) mm.

Rather than relying solely upon orbiting ARMD carriers to launch variable fighters into space, the UN Spacy made use of the atmosphere escape booster to send variable fighters stationed on Earth into orbit, where the booster could be easily discarded after launch. Eventually, advances in OverTechnology and improved design would enable future variable fighters to achieve orbit unassisted and the space booster would become a thing of the past.

New Paper Craft: Macross Plus - General Galaxy YF-21 Omega One Fighter Free Papercraft Download

Macross Plus - General Galaxy YF-21 Omega One Fighter Free Papercraft DownloadThis paper model is a simple version General Galaxy YF-21 (Unofficial codename: Omega One), an UNAF/UNS prototype main advanced variable fighter from the Macross Plus of anime series , the papercraft is created by Sascha Kunke. The scale is in 1:60.

The General Galaxy YF-21 was built for the Project Super Nova Advanced Variable Fighter (AVF), a competition for a contract with the United Nations Air Force (UNAF) and United Nations Spacy (UNS) to replace the older VF-11 Thunderbolt main variable fighter. When the UNAF announced General Galaxy as one of two final demonstration/validation phase contractors, the company produced two prototypes and a ground based avionics test bed. Development on the YF-21 began in 2034 and produced prototype No. 1 for first flight in 2039. However, it was the first flight of the YF-21 prototype No. 2 at New Edwards Test Flight Center on Planet Eden in January 2040 that General Galaxy revealed the true nature of their next generation fighter. The second prototype eschewed the conventional control cockpit of protoype No. 1 and was integrated with two experimental systems designated brain direct interface system (BDS) and brain direct image system (BDI) in an attempt to achieve unification of pilot and airframe. The BDS allowed the pilot of the YF-21 to operate every control at will and BDI offered an unprecedented view around the craft. Equipping the YF-21 with this unique control system that improved pilot response time and situational awareness, as well as an airframe of advanced composite material that could alter wing shape/size, it was clear General Galaxy was determined to win the competition with a technologically superior craft with a key characteristic being an emphasis on high mobility performance.

The YF-21 was built with several technologies common to itself and the competing YF-19 from Shinsei Industries; notably an active stealth system, an optional fold booster for interstellar travel and arm-mounted anti-projectile shields (doubling as tail stabilizers in fighter mode). Both variable fighters also employed a new fighter-scale pin-point barrier system, which produced movable spheres of super dimension energy upon the exterior hull of the craft for repelling incoming fire. Zentradi Technology was also implemented in the YF-21 Battroid mode by adopting an enhanced version of the Quimeliquola Queadluun-Rau special inertia vector control system (the YF-21 shares a similar silhouette to that Zentradi mecha). The offensive weaponry of the YF-21 includes a rearward firing super-miniature anti-aircraft laser turret, two forward/rearward laser beam guns, four internal all-environ rapid-fire micro-missile launchers and lastly two Howard/General GV-17L cartridge-less Gatling gun pods featuring retractable grips and stealth covers. In test sorties the YF-21 achieved performance results far beyond last generation variable fighters and the BDS/BDI system was clearly a recognizable improvement over conventional control systems. The YF-21 made use of variable wing cant for incredible speed and, like the YF-19, could achieve satellite orbit unassisted. While most VFs have traditionally situated the main engines within the legs of the Battroid, the YF-21 arranged the engine block in the main body with independent legs. By discarding the mostly dead weight of the arms and legs, the limiter-release mode can attain performance reaching the fuselage design limits and attain high manueverability combat performance exceeding other VFs. However, the pilot operating the limit-release mode bears the effect of dangerous G-forces which exceed the limits of the human body. While the YF-21 was a groundbreaking fighter, development of the craft was hindered by several misfortunes and technologies of questionable practical worth that were either unreliable (BDI/BDS) or too expensive for mass production (composite material wing).

In January 2040 the problems of the YF-21 began appearing more frequently. Test pilot Guld Goa Bowman suffered temporary loss of control of the YF-21 prototype No. 2 in the first fire control system test, which some attributed to failings inherent in the delicate BDS/BDI systems in which control can be lost when mind feedback fails. An investigation by UNAF Super Nova AVF project director, Colonel Millard Johnson, determined later that month that Bowman may have had a neurochemical imbalance attributed to the pilot"s Zentradi-Human genetics. Ultimately Colonel Millard suppressed these findings, choosing to retain Bowman as the YF-21 test pilot. In March 2040, Bowman piloted the YF-21 and was ordered to pursue the YF-19 when it was stolen by Isamu Dyson; Dyson planned to disrupt the introduction of the X-9 Ghost on Earth in protest over the February halting of Project Super Nova AVF by the UNG. In what became known as the "Sharon Apple Incident", the YF-21 and X-9 Ghost were both destroyed in a collision following an intense air battle. In 2041, the UNG announced the YF-19 (re-designated VF-19) as the next generation main variable fighter. Though the YF-21 fighter lost Project Super Nova and it production cost was high, the performance of the YF-21 was highly praised and General Galaxy did secure an important contract with the UNS that produced the similar VF-22 Sturmvogel II. In 2042 a small number of VF-22 Sturmvogel II variable fighters were deployed as the special operations units. [Source: macross2]

New Paper Craft: Macross - General Galaxy/Messer VF-14 Vampire Fighter Free Papercraft Download

Macross - General Galaxy/Messer VF-14 Vampire Fighter Free Papercraft DownloadThis paper model is a simple version General Galaxy/Messer VF-14 Vampire, a main variable heavy fighter attack craft from the anime series , the papercraft is created by Sascha Kunke.

The VF-14 was a fighter design in the "Nova Project" competition but lost to the VF-11 Thunderbolt as the variable fighter to replace the VF-4 Lightning III as the next main fighter. However, the Vampire was found useful on frontier immigration planets and emigrant fleets because it excelled in cruising performance in space and its airframe was easy to maintain. These factors lead to mass production of the VF-14 Vampire. Beginning mass production just one year earlier, the VF-14 Vampire was deployed in combat action in orbit of the planet Dahan in 2029.

Dancing Skull squardron was once again called into action to protect a valuable satellite in orbit. A Zentradi warship folded into near orbit and unleashed a vast array of units to ensure the satellite"s destruction. Unfortunately, they were once again up against the amazing talent of Max Jenius and Milia Jenius flying the new VF-14 Vampire variable fighters. Though vastly out-numbered, the powerful armament of the VF-14 and the incredible skills of the ace pilots allowed the UN Spacy to prevail against the Zentradi forces.
