New Paper Craft: Russian Monitor Smerch Free Ship Paper Model Download

This ship paper model is the Smerch (1865), a monitor built for the Imperial Russian Navy in the early 1860s, the papercraft is created by AlexeyL, and the scale is in 1:200.

The Smerch was designed by the British shipbuilder Charles Mitchell and built in Saint Petersburg. The ship spent her entire career with the Baltic Fleet. She ran aground and sank shortly after she entered service in 1865. Smerch was refloated and repaired shortly afterwards. She became a training ship sometime after 1892 and was stricken from the Navy List in 1904.

The ship was hulked five years later and renamed Blokshiv No. 2. She was in Finland when that country declared its independence in 1918, but was returned to the Soviets after the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed. Blokshiv No. 1, as the ship was now known, was sunk by German artillery fire in 1941. She was salvaged the following year and remained in service until she was stricken in 1959 and subsequently broken up. [Source: wikipedia]

Named for the Roman admiral Gaius Duilius, the ship was laid down in January 1873, was launched in May 1876, and was completed in January 1880. Caio Duilio"s career was uneventful. She spent her first two decades in service with the Active and Reserve Squadrons, primarily tasked with training maneuvers and exercises. She was withdrawn from front-line duty in 1902 and thereafter employed as a training ship, though this role only lasted until 1909 when she was converted into a floating oil tank and renamed GM40. The Novgorod was one of the most unusual warships ever constructed, and still survives in popular naval myth as one of the worst warships ever built. A more balanced assessment shows that she was relatively effective in her designed role as a coast-defence ship.

The hull was circular to reduce draught while allowing the ship to carry much more armour and a heavier armament than other ships of the same size. Novgorod played a minor role in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–78 and was reclassified as a coast-defenceironclad in 1892. The ship would later be succeeded by the Silvius. Two years after the events of Last Exile, it eventually comes to Earth commanded by Sophia Forrester herself with the Anatoray battle fleet to join the allied fleet against the Grand Exile activated by Luscinia Hāfez.

The construction of the Silvana is unlike that of any vessel in the Anatoray fleet. Most of this owes to the fact that the Silvana"s Claudia Unit is permanently integrated into the ship, not requiring the room to detach from the vessel. This makes the Silvana much smaller than regular warships, and also enables it to carry heavier armor and weaponry while still maintaining its high speed. [Source: wikia]

This paper model is a very detailed Omega Class Destroyer, an Earth Alliance warship, manufactured by Rocketdyne at the Neue Hanse Orbital Shipyard in Earth orbit, based on the American science fiction television series Babylon 5, the papercraft is created by [unknown], and the scale is in 1:2250.

Following the Earth-Minbari War, it became the most powerful and ubiquitous capital ship of the Earthforce fleet and one of the strongest ships ever built of the younger races.

A continuation of many of the design elements from the Nova-class dreadnought, the Omega possessed a large rotating section, allowing the crew to operate in gravity, eliminating the constant need for handholds and straps that often hindered the older zero gravity warships. Ships of the Omega class were equipped with a DX-419 tracking system, supposedly an improvement over the standard XB7 units used during the war, though several officers have noted that they never worked right. By 2261 the system had at least begun to be upgraded.^[7][8]

The Omega class destroyer had more firepower than most imagine - it had launch bays that could launch gigaton class mines. It also had  72 red missile hatches. Due to the budget limitations of Babylon 5, the Omega class destroyer was never shown using its true firepower; rather it was only shown using its "light" weapons. It was stated that if one of these ships appeared in your system, you were in serious trouble as this ship was one of the most powerful ever built by the younger races.

During the Earth-Minbari War, Earth did not have any ships that could lock onto Minbari vessels, due to the stealth technology the Minbari possessed. However, Earth ships still had the firepower to damage Minbari cruisers. The Omega Class Destroyer was the first Earth ship capable of locking onto a Minbari ship. Another lesson learned from the Earth-Minbari War was that the solid beam weapons used by the Minbari had proven to be deadly effective. Taking this lesson in hand, the Omega"s cannons could fire both in pulse mode and in solid beam, allowing for more precise and accurate fire. [Source: wikia]

The Tone was named after the Tone River, in the Kantō region of Japan and was completed on 20 November 1938 at Mitsubishi"s Nagasaki shipyards. Tone was designed for long-range scouting missions and had a large seaplane capacity. She was extensively employed during World War II usually providing scouting services to their aircraft carrier task forces. She almost always operated in this capacity in conjunction with her sister ship Chikuma.
